Licensing Services

COVA-DAAV acts on behalf of Canadian visual artists to manage and authorize the use of their works in Canada and abroad. We issue licenses for exhibitions, reproductions, publications, educational uses, and digital or commercial purposes, ensuring compliance with the Copyright Act and adherence to negotiated fee standards.

By working with COVA-DAAV, you ensure that artists are fairly compensated and that your organization maintains legal clarity and transparency when using copyrighted works.

Our team assists with every step of the process, from identifying rights holders and confirming permissions to calculating and distributing royalties.

Determining if Licensing Is Required

If you are located in Canada and wish to reproduce or exhibit the work of an artist represented by COVA-DAAV, either directly or through one of our international sister societies, you must obtain a license.

This includes, but is not limited to, uses such as:

  • Public exhibitions or displays of artworks

  • Reproduction of artworks in catalogues, books, websites, or digital media

  • Educational or commercial uses involving visual or media art

If you are uncertain whether a work or artist falls under COVA-DAAV’s representation, our team is happy to assist in determining whether a license is required.

If you are licensing works outside of Canada, please consult your country’s respective copyright collective.
